Take the detours

The Aurelia Network, the consulting arm of 917 Studios, focuses on the science behind happiness to elevate our workplaces into happier, more productive places.

In the picture here, I'm wearing my favorite Kate Spade NY ring that says "detour". It's an homage to NYC but for me it's also a reminder.

Sometimes when we take the twists and turns in life, we forget where we're going. Yet, the beauty is often in the detour. Or as I like to tell my kids, the scenic route. ("Look kids Big Ben, Parliment!" from the roundabout in European Vacation.) I also have a terrible sense of direction literally, so we often go the long way. The beauty is always in the unknown and the familiar is what we make it.

As innovators, entrepreneurs, and creatives, we often have to think outside the box, find new ways and new pathways and become the trailblazers. This road can feel scary, or if we can reframe it as an adventure .

My professor of Happiness Studies recently talked to me about one of the films I had written and asked me about the industry. As I detailed it to him, I was feeling overwhelmed merely from writing about it. 917 Studios plans to be at the forefront of the next chapter in filmmaking and at times this feels arduous. But then... my professor said two simple words to me... "how exciting!". Suddenly, I remembered 'how exciting' indeed to write and produce films and build a movie studio.

What we say as leaders, matters. You can motivate and inspire so many people when you choose your words wisely and from a place of love always.

Furthermore, sometimes we need little reminders. Maybe for you it's not in the form of a ring but for me even as I type this post, I look at my ring and it reminds me to keep going and find the journey beautiful.

I offer consulting, customized curricula, retreats, public speaking, and executive coaching around the science of happiness and storytelling.

I look forward to taking some 'detours' with you soon.

Warmly,
Rebecca
